Key Stage 2 SATs 2024

At the end of Key Stage 2, in Year 6, pupils take National Curriculum tests, also known as SATs. SATs stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test or Scholastic Assessment Test. SATs test the National Primary Curriculum, which has been taught in schools since 2014.  Almost all children in year six across the country will sit the SATs tests on the same days.

The dates for this year are as follows:

  • Monday 13th May 2024: Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar – Paper 1
  • Monday 13th May 2024:Spelling Punctuation & Grammar – Paper 2
  • Tuesday 14th May 2024:English Reading
  • Wednesday 15th May 2024:Maths Paper 1 (Arithmetic)
  • Wednesday 15th May 2024:Maths Paper 2 (Reasoning)
  • Thursday 16th May 2024:Maths Paper 3 (Reasoning)

The tests are sent away to be marked externally and the results will be reported to you once they have been sent back to school.  The date for the return of data to school is Monday 24th June 2024.  Results of the SATs assessments will be reported to parents shortly after this.

At Cavendish, we pride ourselves on a low-key approach to SATs.  We have been practising at points throughout the year so SATs week should hold no surprises for the children.  They know exactly what they need to do and what our expectations are for them.  The children will do the tests in their usual classroom space as far as possible with the adult who usually teaches them.  We have found over the years that the children cope really well with SATs week and don’t come in anxious or worried.  Our message all year has been that these tests, although we expect them to work hard and do their best, are not nearly as important as the work they’ve put into class all year.  This is what will be discussed and valued by their new high schools.

There is no need for any extra preparation from you at home.  We will organise toast and drinks for the week of SATs as we find that this treat is a good way to start the day positively.  We are confident that the children will take this week in their stride and move on to enjoy a really positive end to their time at Cavendish.
