Welcome to Year 1!
Hello and welcome to Year 1’s class page. On this page you will find lots of information about our school day and all the exciting things we have done or have planned. There are two classes in Year 1:

Our Curriculum & Vision
In Year 1, your child will be provided with a stimulating, challenging, exciting curriculum that develops their curiosity and interest in the wider world around them. As stated in our motto, we aim to create brilliant citizens! Therefore, we have high aspirations for our children and endeavour to maximise their potential academically, socially, emotionally and otherwise through a broad, balanced curriculum that puts the children at the centre of learning and everything that we do.
Our classrooms are exciting places to learn and is fostered by a cooperative, collaborative approach to learning. In this, the children learn to work as part of a team whilst at the same time developing their independence. Should you walk into any of our classrooms, you are guaranteed to feel the buzz that is reciprocated by both the teachers and pupils which is a direct result of our enthusiasm and passion for learning. Why not be inquisitive and ask us about what we have been learning? We will only be too happy to share!

We use Success For All for our phonics and reading programme. There is a link to the parent portal with lots of great resources and videos to support you at home.
Physical Education (PE)
PE is a vital part of the National Curriculum and all pupils are expected to take part each week. Here are our PE days:
- 1AT: Monday & Wednesday
- 1LW: Monday & Thursday
PE Kit Guidelines
Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on their scheduled PE days:
- Plain white t-shirt
- Plain black shorts or tracksuit bottoms
- Plain black trainers
- Jewellery: Earrings must be removed or taped over for safety prior to the lesson
Reading at Home
Reading is a high-priority focus across school. Pupuls are expected to read for 15-20 minutes every day. Support your child by reading daily at home and asking questions about what they have read. You don't have to read to the full book each day.
- Please sign the reading diary every time you hear your child read
- Bring reading books and library books in on a Friday to be changed
- Books are changed once a week
- Y1 will send home a label with a QR code so their SFA book can be accessed online as well
Communication & Support
We value strong partnerships with our families and look forward to meeting new faces and catching up with familiar ones throughout the year.
