Music Vision and Intent
Vision statement
At Cavendish Community Primary School we are committed to engaging and inspiring children’s enthusiasm for music, in order to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. We will enable pupils to develop their musical skills in singing, listening, performing and composing as well as deepen their understanding of music across a wide range of genres, styles and traditions. We aim to provide pupils with the confidence and independence to explore a variety of different musical instruments, whilst teaching them how to use their voices and to sing with confidence and passion. As a school, we believe that music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity, and through the power of music, our children will embrace their own/other’s cultures and fuel their curiosity about music in the wider world.
Statement of Intent
We aim for pupils at Cavendish to:
- Perform, listen to, review, and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.
- Learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn and play a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence.
- Understand how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the related dimensions of pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
